Causes of Candida Infections

Acidosis Is the Main Common Cause of Candida Infections

Candida albicans is a yeast-like fungal organism found in small amount in the normal human intestinal tract. It is normally kept in balance by the body's own beneficial bacteria. However, body acidosis may disrupt, because an overly-acidic body favors the overgrowth of C. albicans. That leads to candidiasis, a recurrent infection also called fungal overgrowth, Candida yeast infections or fungal infections.

Acidosis, or body over-acidity, itself is caused by either of the following conditions:

The Two Main Categories of Candida Infection

Candidiasis Category-1: Superficial Infections
This Candida infestation is known as chronic Mucocutaneous Candidiasis (skin and mucous membranes infections). The infection is localized and limited to outer parts of the body: mucosal surfaces (gastrointestinal tract, mouth, esophagus, vagina, and penis), skin and nails. The disease shows mainly as inflammation and discomfort.
Candidiasis Category-2: Systemic Infection
Over time with optimum conditions for growth, Candida Albicans can change from benign yeast to an invasive (mycelial) fungal form. This new form may leave microscopic holes in the intestinal wall (leaky gut). These holes allow Candida, bacteria and undigested food particles to get into the blood stream and spread over the whole body where they become toxins for body organs and tissues. That is the second stage of infestation known as Systemic Candidiasis. This second type can be dangerous and even life threatening, as the body immune system is overwhelmed and weakened.
